Massimo Botter (1965), diploma in piano, has studied composition with Azio Corghi and got his diploma with Alessandro Solbiati in 1996 at the music conservatory “G. Verdi” of Milan and with Riccardo Sinigaglia in music and electronic composition.
In 1993 he was invited by the New York University to take part in the International Festival June in Buffalo. In 1994 he won the first prize the Biennal of Lisbon dedicated to the young European artists and the first prize at the III National Chamber Composition Competition in Como. With Elegia he was finalist at the International Competition Spectri Sonori of New Orleans. In 1996 he won the first prize at the International Composition Competition in Winterthur, in 1997 the competition The Next Millenium Composition Award in Tokyo, the International Competition Ton de Leeuw in Tirana and the Competition City of Belveglio, Asti. With his composition for orchestra Argella in 2000 he won the 3rd International Composition Competition Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands “City of Palma”. In 2003 he won the International Competition “Francesc Civil” for string orchestra and the “XXI Reina Sofia” Prize of Madrid with the composition for orchestra Les Algues.

He had the special mention at the “Dimitris Mitropoulos International Competition” Orchestra of Colours in Athens (1996) and at the International Competition for Orchestra Vienna Modern Masters (1997) and, with the piece “Les Jeux d’Arlequin” for percussion and orchestra, the special mention at  3rd Klami Composition Competition Finland (2014).

In 2000 the Fundació ACA of Palma de Mallorca published Detalls, a monographic CD including his recordings from 1993 to 2000. In 2003 the flute player Isabelle Schnöller included in the CD Interpretenportrait published by Zeitklang his composition Vert Foncé. In January 2006 the label Stradivarius has published the CD Agli inquieti spiriti with his compositions Les Algues for orchestra and Sheet of Sounds for saxophone quartet.

In 2006 the Biennale of Venice has commissioned him a piece for bass clarinet and orchestra premiered in La Fenice Theatre in Venice by the ORCAM of Madrid directed by José Ramón Encinar with Gareth Davis at the bass clarinet.

He taught Composition, Composition for MAI [Music applied to Images, Harmony and Analysis at the Conservatories of Bologna, Salerno, Reggio Calabria. He currently teaches at the Conservatory “F.E. dall’Abaco” of Verona and at the Civica Scuola di Musica “C. Abbado” in Milan.
As a teacher he is involved in various Composition Masterclasses (Salerno, Cava dei Tirreni, Ischia, Ossola, Milan..) and for 2017 “Composing for laVerdi” annual course of Analysis and Composition for Orchestra (Milan).
His music has been broadcasted by international radio and television stations such as: NHK Tokyo (Japan), RAI – RADIO 3 (Italy), RTVE (Spain), RTSI (Switzerland), Radio Classica (Spain), Radio Beethoven de Chile. Radio Classica (Italia).

He has collaborated with the publisher Suvini Zerboni of Milan and realized the arrangements for piano of the operas Partenope by E. Morricone, La Señorita Cristina by Luis de Pablo and Una Via Crucis by E. Morricone, A. Poce, M. Dall’Ongaro and E. Macchi.
