Oasis Award 2017 Photo Reine bay with Aurora Borealis, Lofoten Islands, Norway Heart shaped wave, Papohaku beach, Molokai Hawaii. Storms in the Bering sea pump winter swells onto the shores of Molokai. Ice has fractured into a beautiful pattern on this mountain lake in the Lofoten Islands in Norway. You could not see this pattern from the level of the ice - it became visible from the top of a 200m high vertical cliff wall just beside the lake, and it was the person exploring the surface of the ice that put things into perspective. In the end of January the low winter Sun rose high enough to reach the surface of the lake, and cast warm light on the snow filling the gaps of the ice. A small detail of the snow-covered Rapa delta. The river channels are accompanied by narrow stripes of Mountain birch (Betula pubescens) forests. UNESCO World Heritage Laponia, Lapland, Sweden. Tinto River (Huelva, Spain) is a unique river by water conditions, extremely acidic (pH 2) and abundant sulfids and iron, that strange bacteria convert to sulfuric acid and iron oxides, which gives the water colorful yellow and red. These Martian conditions, studied by scientists from NASA, are extreme for many plants and animals. The image shows an aerial view of a settling pond after washing mineral with river water.
